Elections in Moldova show people there favor building ties with Russia, says Kremlin

The voting showed that the people support an approach that builds balanced international relations, Dmitry Peskov noted

MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. The recent municipal elections in Moldova showed that most residents of the former Soviet republic support developing relations with Russia, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

His remark came amid Moldovan President Maia Sandu’s accusations that Russia was ignoring the interests of Moldovan nationals, adding that Chisinau no longer had anything to discuss with Moscow.

"At a bare minimum, Mrs. Sandu is ignoring the results of the municipal elections which have just been held and which were not won by her party," Peskov said. "There are many who favor developing cooperation with our country. And we know that. The results of the latest municipal elections, too, indicate that quite clearly," he added.

The voting showed that the people support an approach that builds balanced international relations, Peskov said as he referred, among other things, to the policy curtailing any dialogue with Moscow currently being pursued by Chisinau.
