ASTANA, November 9. /TASS/. Russia and Kazakhstan will support multilateral mechanisms in the field of nuclear non-proliferation and work together to prevent the placement of such weapons in space, according to the joint statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev adopted at the talks in Astana.
"[The parties intend to] support multilateral mechanisms in the field of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in accordance with the basic principles of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons - the key instrument in the sphere of nuclear non-proliferation, disarmament and peaceful use of nuclear energy," the document said.
Russia and Kazakhstan intend to oppose "the placement of weapons in space and the use of force or the threat of force against space facilities, as well as to promote the initiative to adopt a political commitment not to be the first to place weapons in space."
The document also said that the two countries will work together to ensure biological and information space security.
