BERLIN, November 3. /TASS/. More than 8,000 Ukrainian servicemen have been trained by Germany since the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, a high-ranking German military official has said.
"The Bundeswehr [the armed forces of Germany], together with our partners, has already trained over 8,000 Ukrainian soldiers in Germany," Head of the Situation Center Ukraine Gen. Christian Freuding said in an interview with two German newspapers, Stuttgarter Zeitung and Stuttgarter Nachrichten.
According to the German Defense Ministry, up to 10,000 Ukrainian servicemen are expected to undergo training in the country by the end of the year.
Last October, the European Union agreed to provide training to the Ukrainian military in Poland, Germany and other EU member countries under a two-year mandate. The mission envisages commander training programs as well as training on logistics. It also includes a radioactive, bacteriological and chemical protection program. General Robert Brieger, chairman of the EU Military Committee, told Die Welt earlier that the European Union would train 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers this year.
