US notifies Russia of Minuteman III ICBM test launch, says Kremlin

Earlier, it was reported that the US military terminated a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile due to an anomaly discovered during a test launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Moscow received Washington’s notice of a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test launch, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

"Naturally, such test launches are a subject of notification through corresponding channels. That is why, all the necessary notices were, of course, received. The Russian side acts in the same way," he said.

The Kremlin spokesman declined to comment on the US ICBM’s failed test launch. "This should not be a subject of our commentaries," he said.

The US military terminated a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile due to an anomaly discovered during a test launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, the Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) said in a statement.

According to the statement, the ICBM was "safely terminated" "over the Pacific Ocean at 12:06 a.m. Pacific Time November 1 "due to an anomaly during a test launch."

The statement did not specify the nature of the anomaly, adding that "careful analysis" was required to determine the cause.

The test launch was previously announced by Pentagon Spokesman Patrick Ryder. According to the spokesman, the launch was intended to demonstrate the reliability of the US strategic deterrence system and serve as a signal of guarantees to the allies from the US.
