TEL AVIV, October 24. /TASS/. The Israeli army is well-prepared for a ground operation in Gaza, Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Herzi Halevi said.
"The Southern Command has quality operation plans. There are tactical, operative, strategic considerations that have provided additional time, and troops who have more time are better prepared, and that is what we are doing now," Halevi stressed.
According to him, a decision on the details and contents of the next step will be made together with the country’s political authorities.
Halevi added that meanwhile, Hamas was losing its combat capability as the Israeli army was killing its commanders and militants, destroying its infrastructure and collecting intelligence for further action.
Tensions in the Middle East flared up again after Hamas militants infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7. The Palestinian movement described its attack as a response to the actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Jerusalem's Temple Mount. Israel announced a total blockade of Gaza and started carrying out strikes on the Palestinian enclave, as well as on certain areas in Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
