NEW YORK, April 5. /TASS/. The New York court hearing former US President Donald Trump’s case may begin the trial in January 2024, Agence France-Presse has reported.
In turn, CNN said the next in-person session, which Trump is to attend, is due on December 4, 2023. It will be the first in the series of procedural hearings, where the sides have an opportunity to file their motions. Also, pretrial restraint measures are considered during such sessions. So far, no measure of pretrial restraint has been chosen for Trump.
If none of the sides requests additional time for familiarizing with case materials, the trial itself can potentially begin in January 2024, AFP said.
Normally, hearing on the merits takes a few weeks. At the same time, as evidenced in practice, the stage of preliminary hearings may drag for quite a while.
