China calls for non-deployment of nuclear weapons beyond national borders – diplomat

Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the UN Geng Shuang said that guarantees are needed to maintain global stability

UNITED NATIONS, March 31. /TASS/. China calls upon the nuclear powers not to deploy nuclear weapons abroad and urges them to withdraw their nuclear weapons already stationed in foreign countries, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, said on Friday at a UN Security Council session.

"We also stand for the cancellation of the nuclear sharing agreements (on US tactical nuclear weapons in Europe - TASS). We stand for the non-deployment of nuclear weapons abroad by any nuclear power whatsoever," the diplomat said. "In addition, we stand for the withdrawal of nuclear weapons stationed in other countries."

According to Geng, certain assurances are necessary to maintain global stability.

"We are in favor of a consistent approach to the nuclear disarmament process so as to eventually impose a total ban on nuclear weapons and bring about their ultimate annihilation," China’s deputy permanent representative at the UN said.
