Urgent talks can stop Ukrainian conflict — Belarusian envoy

They may be the immediate start of negotiations without preliminary requirements, says Valentin Rybakov

UNITED NATIONS, February 23. /TASS/. Belarus believes that immediate talks without any preconditions are the only chance to stop the conflict in Ukraine, Belarusian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov said on Wednesday.

"Belarus believes that the only chance to end the conflict is the immediate beginning of negotiations without any preconditions. The President of the Republic of Belarus (Alexander Lukashenko - TASS) has repeatedly stated this during the entire conflict, for a year already," the Belarusian envoy said at an emergency session of the UN General Assembly.

The session launched last year following the onset of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine resumed on Wednesday. It will issue a resolution supporting the conflict’s settlement based on a plan suggested by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Earlier, the Belarusian diplomat said that his country would vote against the anti-Russian resolution if it didn’t include a provision condemning Western politicians who admitted that they initially had not intended to implement the Minsk agreements.
