KIEV, February 21. /TASS/. The Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding drills in the Chernobyl zone near the Belarusian border, Joint Forces Commander Sergey Nayev said.
"There currently is no threat of a ground action by the Republic of Belarus. The level of threat is low but we have taken advantage of the situation to hold drills [in the Chernobyl zone] in order to boost our capabilities and strengthen our defenses," he told Ukraine’s Channel 5.
Recently, Ukraine has repeatedly announced drills on the border with Belarus. In particular, Deputy Commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces Alexander Pavlyuk announced border exercises involving armored equipment in late January. On February 13, the Ukrainian Security Service released a report about "counter-sabotage drills" along the border, which involved military hardware and unmanned aerial vehicles.
