BEIJING, February 13. /TASS/. Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and member of the CCP Politburo, will attend the 59th Munich Security Conference, due on February 17-19, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Monday.
"[Wang Yi] will attend the 59th Munich Security Conference at the invitation [of[the organizers]," Wang Wenbin was quoted as saying on the website of China's Foreign Ministry.
He added that Wang Yi will set forth at the conference "the universal, comprehensive, joint and sustainable security concept put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping". The Chinese diplomat will also outline China's position on major international issues, the Foreign Ministry said.
According to the website of the conference, the situation in Ukraine will be among the focal points. Earlier, the chairman of the Munich conference, Christoph Heusgen, said that Russian officials were not invited to the upcoming forum. Instead, he said, the organizers wanted to discuss Russia's future with Russian opposition leaders and exiled people. Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said earlier that the Munich Security Conference had completely lost its reputation as its organizers didn’t’ invite Russians out of fear of hearing the truth.
Among the participants of this year's forum are French President Emmanuel Macron, US Vice President Kamala Harris, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba is also expected to attend.
