BRUSSELS, February 9. /TASS/. France wants the European Union to expand its sanctions against the Wagner private military company in the tenth package of restrictions the European Union plans to adopt by the anniversary of the beginning of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, Bloomberg reports on Wednesday evening.

According to the agency, Paris insists the blacklist be supplemented by a considerable number of individuals and organizations linked with Wagner PMC.

Wagner PMC has been on the EU blacklist since 2021 for its support for African governments in their antiterrorist efforts. This fact has seriously affected France’s interests in Africa. Thus, in early 2022, France had to scale down its military operation in Mali, Chad, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Niger at the request of Mali’s authorities.
