Mali opposes sanctions against other states — top diplomat

Malian Foreign Minister also called on the international community to change its approach to the issue of sanctions "because sanctions resolve nothing"

BAMAKO /Mali/, February 7. /TASS/. Mali is against sanctions and will never support any against other countries, Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop said on Tuesday after talks with his visiting Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

"Mali is against any sanctions. We have been fighting against sanctions here since January 14, 2022. More than 4,000 Malians took to the streets to say their ‘no’ to the sanctions. We will not support sanctions imposed on other countries either," he said.

He also called on the international community to change its approach to the issue of sanctions "because sanctions resolve nothing." "It is necessary to sit down at the negotiating table, to maintain dialogue and look for solutions, in particular to international problems," he added.
