BERLIN, January 25. /TASS/. The German government will continue to keep a check on NATO not becoming a party to the conflict in Ukraine, Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz told the Bundestag on Wednesday.
According to him, Ukraine may count on receiving future support, but NATO should not become one of the conflicting sides. "We will keep this principle in mind in the future," Scholz said.
Earlier, the German cabinet of ministers confirmed that it would send 14 Leopard 2A6 tanks from the stockpile of Germany’s military to Ukraine and issue permits to other countries for their re-export.
"There are citizens who are concerned about these decisions," the chancellor added. "We will ensure this support is provided but in such a way so that risks for our country won’t develop in a wrong direction," he explained.
Scholz also said that it was a correct choice to closely cooperate with Western countries on the issue of military aid.
