Blinken’s visit to China may stimulate US-China relations — expert

SHANGHAI, November 21. /TASS/. It is expected that a visit by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to China may relaunch a number of operating mechanisms in regards to relations between the two countries, Shao Yuqun, director of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Studies at the Shanghai Institutes of International Studies told a TASS correspondent on Monday.

"What the outside world can expect includes, at least, two aspects. The first one is the beginning of a gradual recovery of communication and dialogue between the diplomatic teams of the two countries. The second one is a gradual resetting of various working mechanisms in bilateral relations. Resuming the dialogue at a working level and certain progress in bilateral cooperation will be important for the stable development of the two countries’ relations," the expert thinks.

At the November 17 press conference in Bangkok, Blinken confirmed that on instructions from the US President, Joe Biden, he intended to visit China at the beginning of next year. The US secretary of state said that in China, first and foremost, he will discuss the bolstering of communication channels between Beijing and Washington as well as bilateral, regional and global issues.
