Turkey’s Air Force starts operation in northern Iraq, Syria

The operation is carried out against the Kurdistan Workers' Party and the People's Self-Defense Forces, Anadolu news agency clarifies

MOSCOW, November 20. /TASS/. Turkey’s National Defense Ministry said it’s conducting an Air Force operation in northern Iraq and Syria, the Anadolu news service said on Sunday.

The report said Turkish aircraft acted in compliance with Article 51 of the UN Charter that guarantees the right for self-defense.

The Air Force is targeting the Kurdistan Workers' Party and People’s Protection Units, or YPG, which are banned in Turkey as terrorist groups. The YPG is the backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces that control some provinces in the country.

An SDF spokesman said earlier that Turkish aircraft were pounding some areas in Syria including Kobani.
