US says response to any Russian nuclear strike in Ukraine won’t hinge on type of strike

"The use of a nuclear weapon on the battlefield in Ukraine is the use of a nuclear weapon on the battlefield in Ukraine and we are not going to slice the salami," Sullivan said

NEW YORK, October 16. /TASS/. US response to any use of a nuclear weapon in Ukraine by Russia won’t depend on whether it’s a tactical or a more serious strike, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday.

"The use of a nuclear weapon on the battlefield in Ukraine is the use of a nuclear weapon on the battlefield in Ukraine and we are not going to slice the salami," he said on CNN, when asked if deploying a nuclear weapon would be just as serious no matter how big it is.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on October 6 that Washington and other Western capitals may be interested in escalating the situation around the use of nuclear weapons in order to subsequently blame Moscow. According to the diplomat, that’s part of Washington's destructive policy to ensure global dominance, without regard to the danger of provoking a direct armed clash of the largest nuclear powers, which is fraught with catastrophic consequences.
