CICA summit participants in Astana approve Kuwait's bid to join organization

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Kuwait on this important decision, which, as he stressed, "once again demonstrates the relevance" of the forum and "the need to further strengthen dialogue and cooperation in Asia"

ASTANA, October 13. /TASS/. The participants of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit supported the Kuwait's bid to join the association, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Thursday.

"The decision to have Kuwait join CICA as a member state of our forum has been made. I welcome the State of Kuwait as the 28th member state," he said at the CICA summit.

Tokayev congratulated Kuwait on this important decision, which, as he stressed, "once again demonstrates the relevance" of the forum and "the need to further strengthen dialogue and cooperation in Asia."

Previously, 27 countries were members of CICA: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. Another nine countries and five international organizations have observer status. Since 2014, the headquarters of the forum is located in the capital of Kazakhstan.
