MADRID, June 24. /TASS/. An anti-NATO "summit for peace" will open in Madrid on Friday ahead of the meeting of the alliance’s leaders set to take place on June 28-30, the organizers said on Twitter.
Experts, politicians and academics will take the floor during the two-day event, and an anti-NATO demonstration will be held in the Spanish capital on Sunday.
NATO does not promote international security, but only "breeds wars," Enrique Cantilla, a member of Desarma Madrid movement, which is one of the protest summit organizers, told TASS.
He spoke out against the NATO summit being held in Madrid and against growing defense spending to the detriment of social services.
NATO members are expected to adopt a new strategic concept, discuss ways of strengthening the alliance and tackle climate change’s impact on global security.
