Germany to expand its military presence in Baltic Sea — Scholz

According to the Chancellor, Germany will also send the military to Slovakia to ensure its security

BERLIN, June 22. /TASS/. Germany will expand its military presence in the Baltic Sea, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, speaking in the Bundestag Wednesday.

The German Chancellor pointed out that an agreement was reached earlier with Lithuanian authorities on long-term reinforcement of Bundeswehr’s presence in the Baltic state.

"Furthermore, we will expand our presence, including by deployment of air and naval forces in the Baltic Sea," he said, noting that Germany will also send the military to Slovakia to ensure its security.

"On February 27, I said it already here in Bundestag that we will defend every square meter of [NATO] territory," Scholz said.
