Moldova unable to investigate terror attacks in Transnistria — Reintegration Bureau

According to the bureau, Tiraspol does not provide for the law enforcers’ and investigators’ unhampered access to the Transnistrian region

CHISINAU, April 29. /TASS/. Moldova’s law enforcers will be unable to participate in investigating this week’s terrorist attacks in Transnistria together with the authorities of the self-proclaimed republic, because they lack proper access, the Moldovan government’s Bureau for Reintegration told TASS on Friday.

"Tiraspol does not provide for our law enforcers’ and investigators’ unhampered access to the Transnistrian region. In fact, we have no opportunities for detective work there. It is hard to imagine a competent and impartial investigation by the Moldovan authorities in this region," the bureau said.

In reply to a TASS question if Moldova had taken extra security precautions in the wake of the terrorist attacks, the bureau said that the country was taking measures "proportionately to the existing situation." Since February 24 a yellow level of terrorist alert was declared. Moldova hopes that the hostilities in Ukraine will end soon and these measures will be canceled.

Transnistria this week saw a string of terrorist attacks. The leader of the unrecognized republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky, said the acts of sabotage had been committed from Ukrainian territory. The authorities declared the maximum level of the terrorist threat and tightened security. Moldova’s President Maia Sandu blamed the explosions at military and infrastructure facilities on some internal forces in Transnistria.

Officials in Tiraspol have accused Chisinau of the lack of proper communication and mutual understanding during the emergency situation between the two banks of the Dniester.
