No additional batches of weapon sent by Greece to Ukraine — government

ATHENS, April 18. /TASS/. Greece has not sent additional batches of military equipment to Ukraine other than the ones officially announced after a government meeting on February 27," Greek government spokesman, Ioannis Oikonomou told a briefing on Monday.

When asked by journalists whether Greece had supplied weapons to Ukraine before the beginning of Russia’s special military operation, as was reported in the media, he said, "No, of course not." "Along with humanitarian assistance, the government sent to Ukraine defensive equipment as was agreed during the first call between the [Greek] prime minister and President [of Ukraine Vladimir] Zelensky. What was agreed back then is being implemented. There was nothing either before or after that," he stressed.

On February 27, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis decreed to send two military transport planes with defense equipment for Ukraine to Poland. Susequently, two more planes with military equipment were sent. According to Greece’s Open television channel, as many as 20,000 Kalashnikov submachine guns were sent to Ukraine. These weapons were seized back in November 2013 from the Nour-M ship heading from a Ukrainian port to Libya.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country. The republics began an operation to liberate their territories controlled by Kiev.
