Kiev always lied during previous ceasefires in Ukraine — top Russian diplomat

Lavrov emphasized that Russia "needs a sustainable, lasting peace based on the fact that the root causes of the current situation are eliminated"

MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. Ukraine has seen multiple ceasefires since 2014, and every time it turned out that the Kiev government has lied, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a comment to RT, published on Telegram.

"This whole story shows that temporary ceasefires were declared multiple times since 2014. I’m talking about the Minsk Accords, the deal that was discarded after the 2014 coup and the Istanbul agreements. All of those included a ceasefire. And every time, it turned out that they had lied to us. The Ukrainians lied with the support of their European partners," he said.

Lavrov emphasized that Russia "needs a sustainable, lasting peace based on the fact that the root causes of the current situation are eliminated."

Negotiations between the delegations of the United States and Ukraine took place in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on March 11. Their joint statement says that Ukraine is ready to accept a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire and sign a minerals deal with Washington, while the US will immediately lift the pause in providing intelligence and resume assistance to Kiev.
