RIO DE JANEIRO, March 9. /TASS/. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro revealed the details of his talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and admitted that he considered him to be one of the most powerful people on the planet, he said on Tuesday at a meeting with members of evangelical churches.
"A few weeks ago I met with one of the most powerful men in the world. He is going through a conflict with a neighboring country. We talked with him for almost three hours, just us and our interpreters, about strategic issues," the Brazilian president reported.
He also shared the details of the negotiations and his impressions of the conversation. In particular, Bolsonaro recalled once again Russia's support for Brazil's sovereignty over the Amazon rainforest equatorial region, while other countries "allegedly in the interest of environmental protection" said that this area is "the heritage of all mankind", questioning the South American nation’s rights to it. He also drew attention to his concluding words during a talk with the press in Moscow: "The world is our home, and God is above us."
The Brazilian president said that he highly appreciated another gesture by the Russian leader: "He invited me to visit his office when I was about to leave." "What does all of this tell us? The world is one whole entity. What happens 10,000-20,000 kilometers away affects us," Bolsonaro concluded.
In addition, he admitted that in light of the situation in the world, it is "not easy for him to make decisions". "We have 210 million people who will feel the consequences of whatever decision I make," the Brazilian leader said.
Bolsonaro visited Moscow in mid-February, where he held "extensive and constructive talks" with Putin. The Brazilian leader’s visit took place despite diplomatic pressure from Washington, which sought its cancellation.
