ANTALYA, June 30. /TASS/. United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen may visit Russia in July, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday after talks with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu.
"We have invited Mr. Pedersen to pay another visit to Russia. Now, we are agreeing on the date. Most likely, it will take place this July," he said.
According to the Russian top diplomat, the UN envoy is tasked with pushing the Syria parties towards dialogue.
"This is what Mr. Pedersen and his team should do. Not to impose his vision on the Syrian parties but to help them reach accord. It is not an easy task. There is too much mistrust on both sides, both from the government and from the opposition. But this is what diplomacy is for - to try to find ways to resolve such problems, to clear such barriers," he stressed.
