Russia’s withdrawal from 2027 Men’s Volleyball World Cup to entail no sanctions — FIVB

According to the International Volleyball Federation, some national volleyball federations also declined to participate in the Under-17 World Cup, which will be hosted by Qatar

MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) will not impose sanctions against the Russian Volleyball Federation (RVF) for withdrawing from the 2027 FIVB World Cup in Poland, the international organization’s press office told TASS.

"The Russian Volleyball Federation has voluntarily decided to withdraw from the 2027 Men’s Volleyball World Cup," the FIVB said in a statement. "Some national [volleyball] federations also declined to participate in the Under-17 World Cup, which will be hosted by Qatar."

"Given the unique nature of both situations, the FIVB has decided against applying disciplinary sanctions," the statement added.

RVF President Stanislav Shevchenko announced on August 4 that the Russian men's national volleyball team had decided to withdraw from the 2027 FIVB World Cup in Poland, saying in particular that "a decision has been made to withdraw from this tournament for security reasons."

On July 9, President of the Polish Volleyball Union Sebastian Swiderski said that the national sports organization could no longer obstruct Russia from taking part in the 2027 World Cup without resulting consequences.

The 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup and will be hosted by Poland for the fourth time in the competitions history on September 10-26, 2027. Italy are the two-time defending champions of the international tournament.

On July 8, the Board of Administration of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) ruled to lift all previously imposed restrictions against Russia following recommendations from the International Olympic Committee. The IOC announced a decision on July 7 to provisionally lift an earlier-imposed suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and also recommended lifting restrictions on the participation of Russian athletes in all international tournaments.
