Superstar Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi, who is currently playing for the Inter Miami club in the US-based Major League Soccer (MLS) may return to Spanish football club Barcelona once the current MLS season is over, DSports journalist Alex Kandal said on his X social network account on Tuesday.
The 2025 MLS season ends mid-October. Messi’s contract with the club expires at the end of this season.
Messi, 38, played for Barcelona FC from 2003 to 2021. He also played for French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
In the summer of 2023 Messi joined Inter Miami, leading the club to the 2024 MLS championship. He was named the MLS Most Valuable Player last year.
Messi is the captain of the Argentinian national football team and has 112 goals in 194 matches on the international stage. He is the winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the 2021 Copa America and gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
The legendary striker owns a record eight Ballon d'Or awards and a record six European Golden Shoes.
