Russians use YouTube mostly for entertainment — Mediascope

The company specified that music and entertainment are the top genres on YouTube of the total number of search queries, followed by gaming, TV series, and children's content

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. YouTube remains primarily an entertainment platform for Russians, Mediascope told TASS.

Users mostly listen to music and watch amusing videos, while socio-political videos and movies account for only 5% of the total number of search queries each.

"YouTube makes up 7% of all media consumption and 12% of all video consumption. We see what is watched on YouTube, and, according to our data, according to our assessment, it is primarily an entertainment platform," the company clarified.

Thus, music and entertainment are the top genres on YouTube - 21% of the total number of search queries, followed by gaming - 11%, TV series - 9%, children's content - 8%. Social and political videos and movies occupy 5% each, shows - 4%.

Among social networks, the leaders by monthly coverage are VKontakte with 73% coverage, Telegram - 67%, TikTok - 56%, Odnoklassniki - 41% and Instagram (banned in Russia) - 21%. In terms of daily reach, Telegram comes out on top with 46%, followed by VKontakte with 45%.

Meanwhile, 72% of users browse Telegram channels, while channels account for half of the messenger’s activity for older age groups.
