Moscow to take reciprocal actions if US fails to unblock Russian journalists bank accounts

Russian journalists in the United States are faced with unbearable conditions for their work, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed out

MOSCOW, June 8. /TASS/. Moscow is set to resort to reciprocal measures in regard to American journalists working in Russia in case Washington fails to unblock bank accounts of Russian journalists in the United States, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

"Your American journalists are getting paid, able to pay for their living, cars, rent home appliances and buy food," Ministry’s Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a daily news briefing on Wednesday.

"If you are not ready to unblock the evolving situation regarding Russian journalists and mass media outlets, we will be forced to resort to reciprocal measures in regard to your American journalists," she continued.

Zakharova explained that the US authorities blocked private and corporate bank accounts of Russian journalists, while financial transactions with Russia for them were hit by severe restrictions cutting them off from receiving their wages.

The diplomat also stated that Russian journalists in the United States are faced with unbearable conditions for their work, as the US side is particularly declining visa permits for them.
