MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. International organizations were indifferent to human rights violations in Ukraine, Grigory Lukyantsev, Russian foreign ministry’s ombudsman for human rights, democracy and supremacy of law and deputy director of humanitarian cooperation and human rights department, said in an interview with TASS.
"They (documents on the human rights situation in Ukraine - TASS) were referred to Secretary General of the Council of Europe [Marija] Pejcinovic Buric, to Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights [Dunja] Mijatovic, to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet and OSCE executive structures via diplomatic channel," he said. "There was simply no reaction."
Despite the fact that Russian diplomats have been repeatedly raising these issues at the United Nations, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, representatives of these organizations opted to ignore "inconvenient" facts, the diplomat noted. "Ukraine, where civilians have been living amid combat operations since 2014, where people were banned to use their native language, where journalists were persecuted or even killed for their independent investigation, this Ukraine was seen by them as a model democratic state committed to the lofty human rights standards and the principle of the supremacy of law," Lukytantsev said.
