ROSTOV-ON-DON, September 15. /TASS/. Delta is now responsible for more than 95% of all COVID-19 cases reported in Russia, chief sanitary doctor Anna Popova stated on Wednesday.
"Today the Delta variant accounts for 95% of coronavirus cases reported in Russia. It dominates a large part of the country," she said.
According to Russia's chief sanitary doctor, the Delta variant of COVID-19 does not cause severe disease. "I mean, its advantage is that it does not cause aggressive illness. Delta spreads more rapidly, <...> that is why all of us should get vaccinated and wear masks," she said.
The chief sanitary doctor also stated that there are about 18,000-20,000 new COVID-19 cases in Russia each day. "The risk of contracting the virus has increased. The young population is the most communicative group, which is why they are so vulnerable to infection. Unfortunately, unvaccinated young people tend to suffer more from severe disease," she concluded.
