Romanian presidential candidate vows to end military aid to Ukraine

It is pointed out that Simion’s popularity has propelled him to number two in the polls after Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu

NEW YORK, November 21. /TASS/. George Simion, leader of the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians and a candidate in Romania’s upcoming presidential election, has vowed to end military aid to Ukraine if elected.

"We won’t be sending military aid to Ukraine - and this doesn’t make us pro-Russian," Simion told reporters, according to Bloomberg. He added that he would continue to provide humanitarian assistance and logistics support to Kiev and would also support Ukraine’s accession to the EU but not its NATO membership.

Bloomberg points out that Simion’s popularity has propelled him to number two in the polls after Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

The Kiev authorities earlier banned Simion from entering Ukraine for "systematic anti-Ukrainian activities." He is also banned from entering Moldova, which he called an "artificial state."

Romania will hold its presidential election on November 24, with a potential runoff taking place on December 8.
