VIENNA, November 22. /TASS/. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should pay increased attention while verifying Ukraine’s compliance with its obligations in the nuclear domain, keeping in mind its leadership’s declared intentions to develop nuclear weapons, Russia's envoy to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said.
The Russian diplomat told a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors that Kiev government officials, including Vladimir Zelensky, have made "a series of reckless statements about the possibility of developing nuclear weapons" lately. Similar views were expressed by the National Institute for Strategic Studies, a consultative body of the country’s national security and defense council.
"This is an extremely alarming trend that can lead to catastrophic consequences. In this regard, we once again urge to condemn the Kiev government’s numerous criminal acts against civilian nuclear sites and their personnel," Ulyanov said.
"This needs to be done as quickly as possible. Also, the IAEA should pay more attention to the issue of Ukraine’s compliance with its obligations," the diplomat added.
