HONG KONG, December 23. /TASS/. Taiwan will set up a major drone development and testing facility in Chiayi County in the near future, Industrial Development Administration (IDA) Deputy Director General Tsou Yu-hsin told reporters.
According to him, Taiwanese drone producers seek to increase their share of the global market.
"Chiayi is ready to act as a hub for the drone industry as it has a good foundation for manufacturing," Tsou said, as cited by the Focus Taiwan news outlet. "So, we are planning to build a bigger testing venue to boost drone production," he added.
Tsou also noted that the Ukrainian conflict had made the whole world pay more attention to how drones were used in military scenarios, which created "a lot of opportunities for Taiwan."
Earlier, the island’s authorities announced the establishment of the Taiwan Excellence Drone International Business Opportunities Alliance (Tediboa), which brings together companies involved in drone development. According to Focus Taiwan, "the alliance currently has more than 120 members with a range of specialties."
Taiwan has been governed by its local administration since 1949 when the remaining Kuomintang forces, led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975), fled to the island after being defeated in China’s civil war. However, Beijing considers the island to be one of its provinces.
