Moscow police use facial recognition system to detect participants in unauthorized rally

The system detected those who had been put on the database for their repeated participation in unauthorized events

MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. Police on the Moscow subway detected participants in Sunday’s unauthorized rally using a facial recognition system, a law enforcement source told TASS.

"Some people had been detained on central subway stations even before the unauthorized rally began thanks to the use of a facial recognition system," the source pointed out.

According to him, the system detected those who had been put on the database for their repeated participation in unauthorized events, some of them already had criminal records.

According to the Moscow police, the unauthorized rally that took place in Moscow on January 31 involved about 2,000 people. The Moscow Public Monitoring Commission said that some 150 people had been detained.
