Unsanctioned rally ends in Moscow

Earlier, the Moscow city police said that about 4,000 people had taken part in the unsanctioned rally on Pushkin Square in central Moscow

MOSCOW, January 23. /TASS/. The unauthorized rally has ended in Moscow, TASS reported on Saturday.

The streets and squares crowded with protesters have been cleared from people, although security measures are still tightened near Tverskaya Street and the Matrosskaya Tishina detention center, where law enforcers and protesters were involved in clashes. Up to now, the protesters have dispersed.

Earlier, the Moscow city police said that about 4,000 people had taken part in the unsanctioned rally on Pushkin Square in central Moscow on Saturday afternoon. The Public Monitoring Commission said that over 600 protesters had been detained.

TASS reported about clashes between the protesters and law enforcement officers in central Moscow and outside the Matrosskaya Tishina detention center. Police officers and riot police officers were beaten, and helmets were taken off from some of them. Snowballs, bottles, torches, firecrackers and pieces of ice were hurled at the law enforcers. In response, tough detentions were made. Injuries were received among both of the sides. The participants in the illegal rally also blocked traffic on some streets in central Moscow.
