MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. Warnings issued by the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media to social networks used to promote unlawful rallies are justified, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

"These platforms are obviously used to publish calls for attending unlawful rallies," he told reporters. "And in this sense, the warnings of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media that these social networks can be fined for such actions in accordance with our laws sound absolutely justified."

The Kremlin considers organizing unlawful actions and provoking youth to take part in them unacceptable, hence the warnings of liability for taking part in them are natural. "Naturally, we are witnessing certain actions related to calls for attending unsanctioned, unlawful events," Peskov said. "And so it is completely natural that there are warnings of possible consequences related to non-adherence to law," he said.

On January 21, the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media announced that administrative action would be taken against online platforms involved in spreading unlawful information that aims to entice underage people into participating in unauthorized mass events. The agency disclosed that such calls were detected on TikTok, VK, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
