AI code-executing chips among top priorities for Russia — scholar

Russian scientists boast sufficient competences and have made significant progress in many such areas where the international community awaits new breakthroughs in the artificial intelligence sphere, Arutyun Avetisyan said

MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. Russian science and microprocessor industry must develop technologies and hardware platforms that enable launching and operating already trained neural networks and machine learning systems as a matter of priority, Director of the Institute of System Programming Arutyun Avetisyan said at a press conference in TASS.

"Speaking about confidence and security, we need to not merely implement independent research in the artificial intelligence sphere but to develop our equipment as well. We often say we lag behind in hardware development, but it is vital for us to create hardware capable of performing the so-called inference - to run the code of an already trained artificial intelligence system. The whole range of studies should be performed to this end, including in the area of photonics and neuromorphic computing," Avetisyan noted.
