MOSCOW, March 31. /TASS/. Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov will face another Russian, Daniil Medvedev, in the semi-final of the ATP Masters’ Miami Open tournament.
Khachanov, seeded 14th, defeated Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo 6:3, 6:2 in the event’s quarterfinal on Thursday night.
Daniil Medvedev, seeded fourth, beat Christopher Eubanks of the United States in another quarterfinal earlier in the day.
Earlier, Khachanov and Medvedev played four games against each other, and Medvedev won three of them.
Medvedev, 27, is currently ranked 5th in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Rankings. In 2022, he was the number one ranked tennis player in the world for 16 weeks. He is the 2021 US Open Champion in addition to being the winner of 18 ATP tournaments.
Khachanov, 26, who is 16th in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Rankings List, is the winner of four ATP titles and his best performance in the Grand Slam series was when he reached the semi-final round at the 2022 US Open. Khachanov also clinched the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in men’s singles.
