SIMFEROPOL, February 18. /TASS/. Simferopol's Kievsky District Court has arrested for two months five out of six suspects detained on Wednesday over the case of the Hizb ut-Tahrir (outlawed in Russia) international terrorist organization, the court’s website said.
"[The court hereby decrees] to apply a measure of restraint of incarceration until April 15, 2021," the statement said.
Earlier, defense attorney Emil Kurbedinov told TASS that one of the six suspects was detained in the territory of Crimea’s second region, the city of Sevastopol, so the measure of restraint for him will be determined by another court.
The Kievsky District Court’s website specifies that the arrested are suspected of committing crimes under Article 205.5 of the Russian Criminal Code (participating in the activity of an organization deemed terrorist in accordance with the Russian law). The statement also notes that two of them are charged with committing a crime under part 1, Article 30, Article 278 of the Russian Criminal Code (forcible seizure or retention of power).
A source in Crimea’s law enforcement earlier told TASS that after raids, members of the law enforcement detained six suspected members of the Hizb ut-Tahrir (outlawed in Russia) international terrorist organization. The raids took place in Simferopol, Belogorsk, Bakhchysarai and the Sovetsky district.
On February 14, 2003, the Russian Supreme Court declared the international religious group Hizb ut-Tahrir (Hizb ut-Tahrir al Islami, Party of Liberation) a terrorist organization. The extremist organization’s activities are outlawed in Russia.
