Duma speaker accuses US of imposing its vaccines on European countries

According to him, European structures attempt to forbid the countries that wish to purchase vaccines in Russia or China "to save their own people"

MOSCOW, January 14. /TASS/. The United States forces European countries to purchase American vaccines against the coronavirus; creating obstacles for supplies of such preparations from other countries is inadmissible, Speaker of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said in an interview with the Russia-24 TV channel on Thursday.

"We see what is going on in Europe upon which the United States of America is imposing only its own product and no other, at the same time making them purchase [it], trying to maintain this monopoly by these means in order to make money. We condemn this, it is inacceptable to act this way. It is necessary to open the market and do everything in order for any country that developed a vaccine to have an opportunity to supply it to another state. And one shouldn’t create obstacles here," the Duma speaker said.

According to him, European structures attempt to forbid the countries that wish to purchase vaccines in Russia or China "to save their own people." "When will they get a vaccine from the United States of America? At some point they will, but they will have to pay for it. And at the same time the production of these vaccines won’t be launched in these countries. So you see, what freedom represents according to their standards and what the approaches are to the situation when it is a matter of life and death," the Russian politician asserted.
