Vladimir Zelensky has chosen the worst possible future scenario for himself by characterizing the deal between Russia and the US as a sign of weakness on Washington’s part, Vyacheslav Nikonov (of the United Russia party), First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, has said.

"I have not, of course, met with [US President Donald] Trump, but I know many people who know him well. The last thing you could ever say to Trump is that he is weak. By saying this, I believe Zelensky has effectively signed his own death warrant," the lawmaker said during a plenary session of the lower house.

He noted that Trump is the US President and will remain so following the November elections to the US Congress.

"The President is a very powerful figure within the American political system," Nikonov added.
