MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. Moscow and Astana have made a significant joint step this year, when they launched the Russian-Kazakhstani Soyuz 5/Sunkar spacecraft, Russian President Vladimir Putin wrote in an article that was published in the Kazakhstanskaya Pravda ahead of his state visit to Astana.
"The year 2026 was marked by an important step in the space industry. On April 30, the first new-generation Russian-Kazakhstani Soyuz 5/Sunkar medium-lift rocket was launched from the Baiterek Complex," he noted.
"Symbolically, this event coincided with the 65th anniversary of the first human orbital spaceflight: Yury Gagarin’s historic lift-off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome," the Russian president added.
