Escalation of Iranian conflict threatens to destabilize Islamic world — FSB chief

Crises provoked by the intervention of the West often extend far beyond the borders of specific states, Alexander Bortnikov noted

IRKUTSK, May 26. /TASS/. The escalation of the conflict around Iran threatens to destabilize the entire Islamic world, which will also influence the security of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) nations, said Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Alexander Bortnikov.

"The escalation of the Iranian conflict and the involvement of an increasing number of parties are undoubtedly leading to the worsening of interreligious and interethnic relations, threatening to destabilize the entire Islamic world. The consequences of destabilization of the Middle East situation will directly influence the security of the Commonwealth countries," he said at a meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS members’ Security Agencies and Special Services.

Crises provoked by the intervention of the West often extend far beyond the borders of specific states, the FSB chief noted. "The armed conflict between the US and Israel with Iran poses the risks of the situation developing according to this scenario," he stressed.
