Russian presidential aide sees naval arms race taking place globally

Nikolay Patrushev noted that the reformat of the global architecture that had begun would be accompanied by a further increase in naval importance

MOSCOW, May 22. /TASS/. A naval arms race has begun globally, and the importance of navies will increase as the global architecture is being reshaped, said Nikolay Patrushev, a Russian presidential aide and chairman of the Russian Maritime Board.

"According to our estimates, a reformat of the global architecture that has begun will be accompanied by a further increase in naval importance. We can see all signs of a naval arms race taking place globally," Patrushev said at Russian-Vietnamese consultations on maritime cooperation in Moscow on Friday.

The consultations were chaired by Patrushev and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Phan Van Giang.
