MOSCOW, April 29. /TASS/. Western nations are increasingly leveraging meetings of the OPCW governing bodies to push their narrow, self-serving agendas, transforming these gatherings into arenas of political confrontation, said Vladimir Tarabrin, Russia's ambassador to the Netherlands and permanent representative to the OPCW, during an online briefing.
He pointed out that the organization today deviates significantly from the ideals it was founded upon and from its core technical and professional mandate. "Meetings of the governing bodies resemble more political battles, with Western countries attempting to advance their own interests," Tarabrin observed.
The Russian diplomat underscored Russia’s consistent stance that the OPCW remains an integral part of the global security framework. "Engaging in political adventures is inappropriate and undermines both the effectiveness and the authority of the OPCW," Tarabrin emphasized.
