Elections in Myanmar to stabilize situation in country — top Russian security official

Sergey Shoigu says that Russian observers have no complaints regarding the organization of the elections

NAYPYIDAW /Myanmar/, February 3. /TASS/. The results of the elections in Myanmar will confirm the correctness of the course chosen by the country's leadership, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu told reporters.

"Regarding the elections, our observers were present here, observers from the State Duma and our electoral commission. The elections were completely transparent, accessible, and, most importantly, safe," Shoigu said.

"So, of course, we've received the first assessments from our observers. The assessments are extremely high regarding the organization of the elections and their accessibility for the entire population. The first two stages were positive for this country aimed at further stabilizing the situation," he added.

The results of the third stage, and the elections as a whole, should be announced soon, Shoigu noted. "We hope they will also confirm the correctness of the course chosen by the country's leadership," he said.
