Putin did not discuss external governance plan for Ukraine in calls with Trump — Kremlin

Earlier, the Russian leader said that external governance has been introduced globally before and that the practice could pave the way for legitimate talks on resolving the Ukraine conflict

MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. The external governance plan for Ukraine was not discussed during phone calls between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in response to a TASS reporter’s question.

"The issue was not raised in the phone calls we reported to you," he said.

According to Peskov, the external governance proposal, which Putin voiced as he met with naval officers in Murmansk on Thursday, was just one idea worth considering. "This proposal from the Russian president is actually based on irrefutable evidence of how things really stand in Ukraine now," he added.

Earlier, the Russian leader said that external governance has been introduced globally before and that the practice could pave the way for legitimate talks on resolving the Ukraine conflict. He referred to instances of using this mechanism under the auspices of the UN in East Timor, New Guinea, and parts of former Yugoslavia. According to Putin, his plan could be discussed with the United States, European countries, and Russia’s allies and other friendly nations.
