MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. Russia considers sanctions against Iran illegal, as Tehran has never expressed any intention to obtain nuclear weapons, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked about Iran’s nuclear dossier.
"The Iranian side has never said a single word about intending to obtain nuclear weapons. In this respect, of course, all sanctions and restrictions are, in our view, illegal. Therefore, it is necessary to continue diplomatic efforts to resolve this issue," the Kremlin spokesman said.
He also stated that the results of the talks between Russia, Iran, and China on Tehran's nuclear program in Beijing would provide "all the necessary reports" for the Russian president in a timely manner. Peskov added that the search for "all possible options for a peaceful settlement of the Iranian nuclear dossier" was still ongoing.
"We believe that our Iranian friends have the right to develop a peaceful nuclear energy industry in their country. As you know, Russia is actively involved in this and is assisting our Iranian friends in this regard," the spokesman said.
On March 14, Beijing hosted a meeting between China, Russia, and Iran on the Islamic republic's nuclear issue, chaired by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov represented Russia at the gathering, while Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi attended on behalf of Tehran.
