Russia, Nicaragua discuss biological safety, Western threats — Foreign Ministry

"Special attention was paid to military biological activities carried out by Western countries outside the national territory," the statement reads

MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. Russia and Nicaragua have discussed measures to ensure biological safety and threats in this area from Western countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry said following interdepartmental consultations in Managua.

"Assessments of biosafety threats in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in the world, were exchanged. Special attention was paid to military biological activities carried out by Western countries outside the national territory," the Foreign Ministry said.

During the consultations, development of biosafety cooperation and strengthening the regime of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) were also discussed, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.

"The meeting confirmed the unified approach of Russia and Nicaragua on the issue of biological safety. The need for further close coordination and constructive interaction was noted both in the bilateral format and on relevant multilateral platforms, primarily within the framework of the BTWC and the United Nations," concluded the statement.
