MOSCOW, January 21. /TASS/. Russia’s engineer troops will receive the latest and upgraded equipment and over 1,800 advanced engineer vehicles arrived for their units last year alone, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.
Russia’s engineer troops are celebrating the 324th anniversary of their establishment on January 21.
"In 2024, industrial enterprises delivered over 1,800 items of advanced equipment and more than 570 engineer equipment sets to engineer troops. Currently, engineer troops are building up their structure, improving manning tables and are being rearmed with the latest and upgraded engineer equipment," the ministry said in a statement.
During the special military operation in Ukraine, Russian engineer troops are effectively solving all the ten objectives of engineering provision, it said.
"The top priority tasks involve clearing territories of mines, fortifying frontiers, positions and areas and pulling bridges across water obstacles," it said.
Russian engineer troops are currently carrying out mine clearance operations on liberated territories in the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, the Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions. They have already removed mines from more than 85,000 hectares of land, surveyed over 17,000 buildings, more than 2,800 km of roads, over 1,140 km of water and gas pipelines and electric power transmission lines, uncovering and destroying more than 1.5 million explosives, it said.

Russian engineer troops are among the most versatile and technically equipped troops, the ministry said.
"Engineer armaments include over 600 types of equipment and engineering sets divided into 75 categories," it said.
The history of Russia’s engineer troops dates back to the time when a regular Russian army was set up and Tsar Peter the Great issued a decree in 1701 on establishing an engineering school, the ministry said.
"Engineer troops are assigned with accomplishing the most complex tasks of engineering provision, which requires special training and the use of engineering equipment, engineering ammunition and engineering materiel," the ministry stressed.
